Polaris (Arctic Mine)


The Polaris was a specially designed (300m x 130m) barge built at Davie to act as the most northerly metal mine in the world (in the NorthWest Territories), capable of withstanding arctic, permafrost conditions. The barge which was topped with a building the size of football field was outfitted with a complete processing plant capable of producing 2,200 tonnes of ore concentrate each day.
