Davie has throughout its history produced over 1,000 railcars as well as acting as a major railcar repairer. The majority of railcars manufactured at Davie were tank cars, where Davie was able to leverage its skills in the construction of compound curves and pressure vessels. Other bulk transportation railcars such as hopper cars for Canada’s growing mining industry have been developed and manufactured at Davie over the years.
During the 1990’s Davie played a key role in the development of CN Rail’s introduction of intermodal train units where it manufactured bogies and motorized units for transporting truck trailers on then existing railways. Davie also designs and fabricates specialist railcars, such as specially commissioned Depressed Flat Cars for Canadian Natural Resources to transport 600 ton transformers on.
