Friday, November 11th, 2016 – Lévis, Québec: Davie Shipbuilding, Canada’s largest and highest capacity shipbuilder, presented its new, cutting edge integrated information system and integrated shipbuilding methodology to global shipbuilders at the Aveva World Summit in New Orleans at the end of October.
Lindsey Kettel, VP of Business Processes explained, “When the Inocea Group took over Davie, there were many independent information systems in the shipyard. The levels at which Davie were pre-outfitting construction blocks was less than what global leading shipyards were achieving, specifically those in Japanese and Korean shipyards. From speaking at the conference, it was clear that today we are considered one of the world’s leading ERM users and experts on integrated shipbuilding.”
Over the past few years, Davie has acquired and installed a single Enterprise Resource Management system by Aveva which integrates everything from ship design to component procurement to construction planning and delivery. Today Davie is on a par with the best shipyards in the world in terms of highly pre-outfitted modular construction techniques – that is to say, when ship blocks are assembled, they are already outfitted with most of the equipment prior to being joined to other blocks on the slipway.
Kettel added, “Having been a leader in pre-outfitted module construction in the 1990’s, Davie systems became outdated. Today, it is back at the cutting edge. Our presentation was very well received by global shipyards who were impressed with how efficiently Davie operates. We have since had several requests from the global shipbuilders who were present in New Orleans to visit and see how we have achieved it.”
